COMMUNITY LIFE WORKSHOP SUMMARY 21 JUNE 2021

A long workshop for the longest evening - but it fairly flew by!  Great chat with a dozen folk who homed in on some good solid actions to test with the whole community in the draft Community Action Plan in July.

The meeting was of course open to everyone. You can catch a recording of the workshop on YouTube above.

WHAT WOULD MAKE THE MOST IMPACT ON COMMUNITY LIFE?

Most of the evening focussed on fleshing out more detail for potential action areas to foster Community Life, in particular:
  • Local after-school / nursery care - to help parents get back to work, and good for kids’ development too.
  • Community hubs throughout the area - the chat focussed on Gorthleck, but Errogie and other places weren’t forgotten either.
  • Make sure the Post Office and shop are retained - and being ready to step in as a community if they are at risk of disappearing.
  • Sports and recreation facilities in Foyers at the Riverside field and the bay.

These are suggestions, not fixes.  We’ll be testing them with the community, along with potential action areas for the other themes, in the draft Action Plan in July.

As with each of these working groups, there were lots of links to other topics and working groups too - like creating work opportunities and community transport.

If you don't have time to watch the video, the diagram below is a summary of the discussion (click here for a sharper version):

WHAT’S NEXT?

We'll be working up what came out of the workshop, linking it with what comes out of the other working groups, and sharing the results over the coming weeks as a first-cut draft of the Community Action Plan itself.

Keep an eye on www.communityfuture.net during July! We’ll also be at the summer fair on 24 July.

Don't hesitate to contact Nick Wright (contact details below) if you've got any questions or ideas.
